Pretty hopeless February 23, 2008 Gcentral 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Read the glowing reviews and bought this but for what I needed it was pretty hopeless. Looked for advice on diagnosing a central heating problem and it offers advice like "drain the system" and "remove the radiator" without explaining in any way how you might go about this. If I knew how to do that, I wouldn't need a sodding DIY manual would I. Recommend a professional DIY course to go along with this book, as it assumes you already know what you are doing and therefore why would you buy it in the first place?
Essential Reading! November 11, 2007 Neduvi (Birmingham, UK) I borrowed a copy of this book from my local library whilst renovating my daughter's house. I had never undertaken a construction project previously and found this book told me all I needed to know. Not only does it tell one how to do the job, but it also points out the correct materials to use in each situation, whereas simply going to the store or builder's merchant, one would be faced with a bewildering array of seemingly similar choices. Here we have a complete DIY advice centre in a single volume.
FANTASTIC EASY PEASY....NOW I CAN DO IT!!!! June 18, 2005 Cmv Brewster (uk) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Being a new house owner I didnt have a clue how to do anything....its never as easy as it looks on those TV DIY programmes!! I was given this as a pressie from my parents (I think as a hint that what i had been doing so far was VERY wrong and VERY shoddy!)This book was added to the pile of other DIY manuals....However after picking up the bright cover and actually managing to install my kitchen i realised what a godsend this book is!!! It breaks the mould from that of other DIY manuals. Its colourful easily laid out and informative but without going into loads of faffy un-neccesary information. I like the fact that it actually goes down to the basics of DIY (explaining the different types of floors/walls and ceilings) which can benefit anyone who doesnt actually know how a house is built! Fab book would recommend this to any prospective or established DIYer.

My girlfriend bought this book for me for Christmas as we are buying our first house soon. It's absolutely brilliant, detailed & extremely informative. I'm enthusiastic but I haven't got much of a clue, but this book seems the perfect guide to jobs that previously seemed quite daunting. I would highly recommend it to any budding diy-er.
best DIY book on the market September 22, 2004 Ms. Alex Earnshaw (Ireland) 47 out of 47 found this review helpful
I wasn't expecting much when I bought this book as I have always found those B&Q 'HowTo' leaflets unintelligable. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book is absolutely brilliant. It covers a huge range of DIY projects, going into great detail in most cases, and with great pictures to boot. I own several DIY books including the Collins manual and several others and this is without a doubt the absolute best of them all. It's a one stop reference for any DIY project. Well done B&Q.
