A film with a smile and perhaps a tear.... July 28, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Kid, Charlie Chaplin's first feature length film, has that magic blend of comedy, tragedy and simplicity that makes this film, made in 1921, very, very special. In today's modern age where we take for granted the special effects of films, it is important to remember how it all began. The Kid is the very first of Charlie's feature length films and one of the best. He uses his young co-host, Jakie Coogan very well and they gel together easliy in the film. A masterpiece from one of the greatest English talents ever! A MUST buy!

A Lighthearted Tragedy June 15, 2000 This film, although aged and perhaps even tedious to watch to the modern day viewer, benefits enormously from what cinema today sometimes lacks. Conceived at a time when films were just becoming regarded as a new art form, Chaplin tried, and succeeded, to create just that. A captivating plot, set rather incredibly to Tchaikovsky's Pathetique, wrapped with comedy and tragic and concrete social overtones make this 80 year old film extremely enjoyable to watch absolutely first class.
