"Nothing in the world can stop me now..." October 6, 2003 Ash (Reading, Berks United Kingdom) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Forget about the four Ice Warriors episodes, and put to one side the (admittedly excellent) documentary on the Missing Episodes; the reason you should buy this video is because it has the single best episode of Dr Who on it; The Underwater Menace episode 3.It's a superb runaround escapade of an episode, with a witty script, and performances that capture the nature of the characters. Heck, it's worth the price just to see Joseph Furst cheiwing the scenery as the villainous Professor Zaroff. Watch him ham it up for all its worth, marvel at how he almost bursts out with laughter in the climactic scene. And of course, the episode contains the now legendary, "Nothing in the world can stop me now" line... What more could you ask for...? (Well, the other three episodes for a start...)
Marvellous Story ! April 12, 2000 R. Chagouri-Brindle (Sussex, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Ice Warriors represents 60s Doctor Who at its best, and even the fact that some footage was missing doesn't detract from the very effective story and effects, given the excellent reconstruction of the missing story elements by using the audio soundtrack, stills and animation. Well worth buying !
The Ice Warriors excel in a story to inspire dread March 14, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Despite its partial state, the Ice Warriors is a fine example of an overlooked period in Doctor Who. Troughton is particularly impressive, making the loss of the surrounding stories all the more lamentable. The Ice Warriors are a fine example of why this era of the show is famed for its monsters and their menace is handled superbly, creating a claustrophobic sense of fear that pervades the serial. It is a shame that the Ice Warriors were never to attain such heights again. The addition of rare footage on the accompanying tape affords a rare chance to see episode 3 of the Underwater Menace even if this does subject the viewer to Zaroff's woeful 'nothing in zee world.....'In all, an absolute must for Doctor Who fans, even if only for the Ice Warriors.
