1 out of 5 stars Posibly the worst half-season of Angel... And such a shame!   October 10, 2004

Doyle long gone. Cordelia(for now)shamelessly ignored. Our beloved Hyperion Art-Deco set traded for office space. The Angelmobile gone. Spike inconsequentially brought in. Harmony, ditto. Knox a promise never fulfilled. Eve a nuisance. And lame, lame, lame episodes. Starting with 'Conviction' 'Just Rewards' 'Hellbound' and 'Unleashed' Was WB/Fox/ME/Joss trying to kill the show off at birth? Congratulations! Then Lorne doesn't sleep - and that makes for an episode. Then there are mexican fighters vs. Aztec deity. I only got laughs out of 'Soul Purpose' and no emotion whatsoever out of the remainder.

But Part 2 starts on a high. Don't miss episodes 12 and 14. Don't miss Cordy and Puppet Angel! And... the short final arc.

Terrible start, this was - to what everyone in the know knew - was going to be Angel's swan song.

5 out of 5 stars A year of surprises   September 25, 2004

I always think it's a bit suspect when almost all of the reviews have 5 stars but the final season of Angel definately deserves it. A word of caution though. The more seasons of Buffy and Angel you have already seen, the more sense the final season will make. But even if you haven't, this box set will still be a welcome addition to any video collection.

At the end of season 4 we saw Angel give up his son, defeat Jasmine and move into the LA branch of Wolfram and Hart. What could possibly be behind this move by the senior partners is anybody's guess but the team at Angel Investigations is determined to use their new influence to help all the helpless out there. But can they protect themselves from the corrupting influence of their new offices and their new position of power? Well I won't spoil it for you.

Almost every other episode in this season sees an exciting plot twist that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next move. There's some of what you'd expect and some that you would never have guessed.

My only disappointment with the series was the lack of appearances by any characters from Buffy. There are numerous references, phone calls and the like but apart from a brief visit from Andrew, they are nowhere to be seen. There is of course one exception to that as Spike arrives mysteriously having destroyed the Hellmouth at the end of Buffy season 7.

Still, the season is well worth it and even if you have only a mild interest in the series I strongly recommend this one for you.

3 out of 5 stars It gets better   September 13, 2004

There are a few dodgy episodes in this box set (mexican fighters???) but don't give up, it certainly improves. Spike is a good addition to the cast & the storyline of his return is done very well (as with all things Joss does!) We also see the return of werewolves this season (and the costumes are a lot better from the days of Oz!)

But if I haven't convinced you by what I've said then please just trust me - keep watching & you won't be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars so much better than 3 & 4!!!   August 26, 2004

what can i say? i had to buy all the boxsets as im a completists (roll on the rest of red dwarf) i loved serieS 1 and 2, liked 3 and hated 4! evil cordy? sleeping with connor? yuk!!! but glasd to see series 5 back on track. Spike is a welcome addition, the 1 liners and sarcasm are just awesome(i do have a thing for James Marsters) a return to the Angel i am used to.
