The Animals Of Farthing Wood - Part 9 - The Wanderers' Return [1996]

Series 3 of The Animals of Farthing Wood is in most people's opinions the weakest of the three. There are several reasons for this. Firstly the animators used a new technique to animate Series 3. Instead of using 2D hand-drawn animation this was done through 3D computer animation where the animals had a slightly altered appearance such as their faces having a zoom in ability where as different things were done such as when yawning their facial structure would change slightly. This was done in order to look more like the cartoons of that time and to appeal to younger viewers, who may have been put off by the more adult themes from previous series' of Animals of Farthing Wood.

The storylines had changed as well in order to attract younger viewers and the seriousness tended to be dipping at times.

Anyway this video starts at the 10th episode of the series. The warden of White Deer Park attempts to poison the rats but the biggest rat ever seen in the cartoon eats all of it, dieing soon after.

The previous video ended very sadly when a black town rat (which died from the rat poison) killed Adder's mate Sinuous. Every animal found this out and were devestated, mostly Adder, who was now without a mate, further saddened by the fact that the rats were after her and found the wrong snake.

The rats are in triumphant mood as they plan attacks on the White Deer Park animals, in an attempt to claim the park for themselves. The first is Toad, who is surrounded by about 20 rats, where his friend, Spike (a rat incidentally) betrays him.

Another danger is the hurricane that spreads through the land desroying everything that gets in its path but the weasels and owls decide to return to White Deer Park, just in time to face the rats as their leader, Bully plans his final attack on the animals.

This video will be the final one ever made since it came out over 8 years ago and although there is demand for more Animals of Farthing Wood to be made it will be unlikely to happen.

This is also the rarest of the 9 Animals of Farthing Wood videos because it appears that series 3 was not particularly successful compared to series 1 and 2 so fewer videos had been made.

This is another excellent video for children who like the series. My child has watched it again and again. There are a number of hilarious scenes which even make the adults laugh! There is a heartwarming story about Owl, exciting fight scenes and the children learn more about all the different animals. This is enertaining as well as educational.
