creepy, yet entertaining and fun - perfect evening viewing November 25, 2008 griffin (Northants) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought on Monday and all watched by Wednesday as I had to know the resolution! A shorter season than normal (as others have commented), but no less enjoyable. Recommended if you like creepy whodunnits, good character interplay and acting, and a touch of humour. For those interested in DVD features / extras here they are: Audio: English 5.1 dolby surround Subtitles: english for the hearing impaired, danish, finnish, norwegian and swedish Runtime: 789 minutes colour on 5 dual-layer, single -sided discs Aspect ratio: 1.78:1 (approx) Special features: optional extended episodes of "The Knight on the Grid" and "The Baby in the Bough" optional unaired version of "Player under Pressure" gag reel 4 bonus episodes from season 4: "The Yanks in the UK" Pt 1+2, "The Man in the Outhouse" and "The Finger in the Nest" (these are on disc 5)
Excellent Stuff November 22, 2008 Mr. A. I. Callowhill (Above, Below, Between) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was in serious need of something a little cheering on the DVD front and what plomped onto the mat but Bones Series 3. Seriously icky (there was a scene with an opened time capsule which made me wish I hadn't just made myself a cup of tomato soup! YEUCCHHHH!) in parts and with and obvious lumps missing from a couple of the story arcs, probably due to the writers strike, it still manages to combine a good crime drama with some well written humour and keep the plot pushing along. It works, whichever way you look at it and I loved the Gormogon idea - an anti-secret society secret society ! The only thing which I wavered over was the preview double episode "Yanks in the UK" from the Fourth Series. This was, despite the best efforts of the gorgeous Indira Varma and the usual crew was utter pants! (Fortunately, the other two preview episodes seem to be far better so there is hope.) Series 3 was excellent however and I recommend it wholeheartedly to one and all!
A wonderful show, however... October 30, 2008 Ms. K. O'donnell (Lincolnshire, UK) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have adored the character of Temperance Brennan since discovering the writing of Kathy Reichs some years ago. Needless to say when I heard that a show had been made from her books I was eager to see for myself how they compared. I was in no way disappointed. The writing is tight, the story lines suitably edgy and the acting superb (David Boreanaz and T.J. Thyne bringing some of the best to the show in my eyes). The more gory elements are brilliantly ballanced with a dark humour that is never glib or undermines the harshness of the cases. I have two issues with this third season dvd release: 1) It is sadly truncated with fifteen episodes as opposed to the twenty one/two we'd expected, due in no small part to the writer's strike in America. As a consequence the finale wasn't as good as perhaps it could have been but there isn't much that can be done about that. The majority of the season was very strong so the finale can be excused due to constraints outside of the creators hands. 2) What is with the price tag attached? As previously mentioned this season is much shorter than the last two and is being released on three discs rather than six... and yet we're being expected to pay the same ammount? I don't think so. It's like the SATC season four debacle all over again. Much as I want this season I'm not prepared to pay so much for it. I'd rather set my dvd egg timer and get it once it has dropped to a more acceptable price befitting a three disc set. Overall I can not praise Bones enough, I just wish we weren't getting exploited over the price. If you're willing to fork out for it then all due respect to you but my advice for what it's worth is wait it out until the price drops later next year.
Bones season 3 October 29, 2008 Mr. Pjk Patching (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bones is a brilliant show with something for everyone. Although forensics techniques and terminology are predominantly used throughout, those who prefer layman terms are catered for by Seeley Booth's standard lab question "O.K so what does that mean?" As well as the crimes the show also delves into the relationships between the characters, their pasts and their personalities which makes for a very entertaining show.
