3 out of 5 stars get rid of the 2 main characters   November 2, 2008
Junko (UK)
Only recently watched both series - Alison Steadman is an excellent actress but feel she bas been cast in something that is far beneth her.

I have to admit Ruth Jones as Nessa and Rob Byron as Bryn are both excellent as boring and as simple as Bryn is some of the lines were so funny the one about going on myspace and boosting about 5 friends I thought was quite funny

The main 2 characters Gavin (who has also appeared in Catherine Tate show) is very wooden and Stacey who plays Gavin's g'friend/fiance/wife - must be the woman in men's nightmares - so clingy and the high pitched welsh accent made me just want to cringe

All in all i feel that aside from the main 2 characters the show could be really good

5 out of 5 stars Loved it   October 30, 2008
Sarah Bowman (London)
Thought I'd get this out of curiosity as I've never seen it before and everyone seems to love it. I was not disappointed, managed to watch the whole series in 1 go ops!!! Now need to get the second series just got to wait for it to be released.

5 out of 5 stars three steaks Pam   October 30, 2008
scousebird (liverpool)
A true modern day romance.Top marks to the 4 lead charactors, especially Ruth Jones as Ness'.[It took me ages to work out where I had seen Ruth Jones before then I realised she was Linda in Nighty Night]
Alison Steadman is the true gem in this show though, '3 steaks Pam' how that cracked me up.
Then here pushing poor put upon husband Mick to Tescos to get Linda McCartney bits in case anybody was a vegge. That is something my own mother has done in the past so I near had a heart attck through laughing that much.
I have a habit of always looking at the supporting cast rather than the main stars so Uncle Bryn, again was another marvel in this.
When he listed off all of Staceys ex-fiancees,and pronounced the name Ahmed in a true welsh fashion, again, comedy gold.'He even sends me a Christmas card and they[muslims]don't even celebrate it!'
As soon as Season 2 comes out I will be buying it.

5 out of 5 stars Feel-good fun-loving drama at its best!   August 11, 2008

Thought I'd have a quick peep when it dropped on my doormat, ended up watching all six episodes in the same day! Can't wait to watch the second series.

A great series that thankfully doesn't fall into the obvious sit com scenarios that you think it's going to.

5 out of 5 stars Superb   August 3, 2008

Somehow I had managed to totally miss out on G&S when it was on TV. I had heard that it was good but never actually caught a single episode.

So I got this DVD - and I was instantly hooked and ended up watching all 6 episodes back to back in a single sitting. It is stunning - well written, great characters, great actors (Rob Brydon is a genius) and life-affirming charming.

I haven't been so bowled over by a British comedy so since Phoenix Nights or Spaced.

I'm now off to get the DVD of the second series.
