Did they read the book?! November 5, 2007 Lindy (St. Helens) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Absoloutely astounding...and not in a good way. Astounding that this film was ever allowed to be released. Any self respecting Austen fan will watch this and scoff at the miscasting, the location researcher's inadequate choices and the downright affront of the people who made this atrocity! I mean, did they even read the book? Now go home, get out the Andrew Davies DVD and know that all isn't that bad with the world. Please note it got one star because they wouldn't let me get away with giving it none.
i have to say... (its more like 3.5 stars) June 3, 2006 poppy girl (in the clouds...) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
there is no doubt in my mind the characters in this movie are gorgeous. Unfortunetly, that about all that is good to say about it. In Pride and Prejudice the novel, it was the development of the characters that captured our attention. In the movie however, it was too short to capture the true essance. Some of the dialogue stays true to the novel but it is all in vain. What is most surprising is Lizzy in the novel was always a woman before her time; she had her pride and acted on her feelings. Unfortunetly due to the lack of time (i suppose) her witty remarks have changed her character into something similar to a girl of the 21 century. Im not saying evolution is bad, but the change in character is too dramatic. And what happened to Mr. Dsrcy? he went from being debonair and mysterious because he ws quiet to an unfeeling person who showed No emotion at all. Frankly, if a person hadn't read the novel, they wouldn't have even figured out her like Elizabeth until he proposed. I suppose if the movie hadn't had the name of Pride and Prejudice, it would have recieved better reviews, but this is Jane Austen and nothing but the best deserves the name.
