Remember that scene in Jerry Maguire where the title character suddenly realises the foolhardiness of his impulsively written manifesto? That's how director Alan Parker (The Commitments, Fame) ought to feel every day of his life since making this dopey, 1976 musical featuring an all-kid cast playing Prohibition-era gangsters and molls. What was Parker thinking? The cuteness of the concept never did hold up for more than 10 minutes, but the film extends it impossibly into a feature. Jodie Foster is on hand, lip-synching a Paul Williams song (Williams wrote the score), but even she can't detract from the film's overall silliness. It's a toss-up as to whether children will enjoy watching it, since the characters and the milieu are based on adult situations. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

What a fantastic film I saw it many years ago and then again recently. I then decided to buy it so that my 5yr old daughter can watch it. I first bought the CD so she could here the music then I've let her watch all the songs being performed on the DVD. She loves So you wanna be a boxer and down and out. I plan to sit down and watch the whole film with her soon and I'm sure she'll love many bits of it like the cars which you pedal, and the splurge guns, the fact it's all done with children makes it even more loveable.

I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE FILM FROM THE MOMENT I SAW IT IN THE CINEMA AS A SMALL BOY. I'VE EVEN GOT THE SOUNDTRACK ON VINYL (KIDS ASK YOUR PARENTS WHAT THEY ARE). THE SING ALONG ASPECT IS A MASSIVE BONUS TO WHAT IS A TRUELY GREAT, FEEL GOOD FILM.

My daughter was recently in a school production of Bugsy Malone and I thought it would be a good idea to get a copy of the original. She loved it. What a classic. A bit rough round the edges, but none-the-less bags of fun. I have to say though, the school production was even better!!

I had a part in the film shot at Pinewood in the 70's and am still amazed at the following Bugsy Malone has today after all these years. As with many people we have seen 16mm film home screenings and you could even at one time buy the film complete of Super 8mm home movie film as indeed I did. VHS and Betamax versions have come and gone, but it is so nice to now have the Blu-Ray version to more or less complete the collection of media issues. When watching the film I always remember the custard pie scenes and being called back to Pinewood just before Christmas to re shoot some of the final shots with the cream dried onto the set walls from months before. Thank you then for a nice Blu-Ray issue which just about tops all that has gone before, although the premier in London was certainly something to remember....

the film was in briiliant condition when recieved, didnt take long to come. My children have watched it over and over again and it has excellent picture quality.
