Amazon.co.uk Review Racking up impressive box office numbers right across the globe, the arrival of The Simpsons Movie onto the big screen proved, for many, to be more than worth the wait. But with its DVD release, there's a compelling argument that Springfield's finest have come back to their natural home. The film itself is primarily Homer-centred, with the head of The Simpsons family seemingly consigning Springfield to certain doom when he dumps his waste where he shouldn't. But, in the true spirit of the show, the plot takes a relative back seat to the antics of America's first family. And it's those antics that offer the film's gold. As you'd hope, it boasts several laugh-out-loud moments, from visual gags (the rock and hard place being a favourite) through to the by-now infamous Spider-pig. There's not quite enough material to keep the chuckle counter going for the full duration of The Simpsons Movie, and the criticism that it's effectively three episodes strung together has some truth to it. But you'd still be hard-pushed to complain for one key reason: The Simpsons Movie is grand entertainment, with plenty of rewatch potential. So while you can add us to the queue of people who wanted more Mr Burns, and while it doesn't quite measure up to some of the show's best episodes, The Simpsons Movie still delivers, and does it with some quality. And Spider-pig is a work of genius

i love the show but not the movie as much July 1, 2010 Rebecca (county durham, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It has to be said that although the quality of the television series has declined somewhat since series ten and what followed, this big screen adaption of the series is actually pretty decent given the output the series has been giving over the last few years. Centred around Homer (The strongest and funniest character on the show) the Simpsons are forced into hiding after Homer causes an environmental catastrophe in Springfield.
While not as laugh out loud funny as the original series (especially 4-10), the movie provides plenty of funny moments for all members of the family, as well as long term viewers of the show and newcomers. We also get some cracking animation which has rarely been matched on the TV screen and all the memorable Simpsons characters are present (with the odd exception) voiced by the terrific cast. The film however does have some downsides. Firstly I have to agree, it came ten or so years too late. Had it been released before then it probably would have had a better success as the series was still quite popular. In addition during the film we do have to put up with yet another story that leads to the possible end of Marge and Homers relationship and this has been done countless times before. As well as this theres the Spider-pig gag that everyone knows and goes on about. Yes this is funny the first time you see it, but when it comes to re-watches of the movie the gag wears a little thin, plus in my opinion there are funny moments.
Overall it is quite a surprising film, even if it does feel like an extended episode, we still get a decent storyline that is centred on the best character Homer, with other memorable characters also getting a look-in as well. We get some of the strongest humour the writing team have dished out in years, all the voice talent is on top form and the animation is just brilliant. Worth a look at, even for fans of the classic series!
Cringeworthy June 10, 2010 Malkmus fan (West Midlands) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying that I am quite possibly the biggest Simpsons fan in the world. I own all of the seasons that have been released on DVD and have watched every episode on them at least 10 times, if not more. I can recite the lines from whole episodes word for word. I make a point of watching all of the episodes with the makers commentaries and I buy books and other such gubbins associated with the show so I can read up on jokes that aren't obvious unless you know what you are looking for. I don't begrudge a penny I have spent on anything Simpsons related as it is the best thing ever committed to the screen. Yes, there has been a quality dip in the latter seasons but maintaining the quality of seasons 4-8 would have been an impossible task and I think it is admirable that the writers can still churn out the best TV comedy in the world after 20 years. Family Guy, for example, was crap right from the start.
I was always slightly apprehensive as to how the writers would go about transferring The Simpsons to the big screen. I was hoping that they wouldn't change the formula too much. Basically I was hoping for a normal episode of The Simpsons stretched out over 90 minutes. What we got was something very different.
I have a confession to make. I have only been able to sit through this film once. That was a long time ago and I can't remember every line and visual gag like I can do from a season episode. I can remember the feeling of slow creeping horror that came over me as I watched though. Why is Bart a massive whiny pussy all of a sudden? How has Homer gone from a lovable buffoon to a slightly unpleasant moron with no redeeming qualities whatsoever? Where are the multiple storylines that always run parallel to each other in the episodes? Why are the peripheral characters so sidelined? The vast and varied non-Simpson population of Springfield has always been the shows strength. Everybody has their own favourite. I personally am a huge fan of Mr Burns and Principal Skinner. As far as I can remember they appear in the film twice at the most. Even then their lines are not funny. If I rack my brain the only gag I recall laughing at was Homer jamming a claw hammer into his eye. Maybe this is why this particular scene was used in the trailer as anything else would have roused peoples suspicions as to what a giant steaming turd this movie is.
I don't like having to say this. I love the show and it has been a huge part of my life. I am not, however, a blind fanboy who will praise anything Simpsons related just for the sake of it like Oasis fans who say anything post 97 is worth listening to when it is patently untrue. I hope the producers resist the temptation to bring out another movie and concentrate on the seasons which are getting better at the moment after the dip in quality that was season 11 through to season 15. I will continue to watch and enjoy and be amazed by the most intelligent, well written, joke packed show ever to hit the screen. I will never allow the movie to darken my door again.

Dome! May 12, 2010 sft (UK) The much-beloved TV series translates to the big screen pretty well, and, although it doesn't quite maintain the humour all the way through, there are enough moments of pure Simpsons genius to make this a treat for all fans. I would've liked to have seen more of the characters featured regularly in the series, many of whom make no more than a brief cameo appearance. They provide a good proportion of the laughs on the TV series and are definitely underused here. Also, I found the big-screen music score a little out of place at times. But on the whole this is an amusing movie with much of the wit and charm of the TV show.
HA HA April 29, 2010 The Simpsons movie is really funny ,1 OF THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!

Greatest Cartoon Ever April 3, 2010 B It's simply an extended episode but as this is The Simpson's that makes it's great. You love the Simpson's and want and extended episode this is a must have. The animation is also very good a lot better than the TV program.
