Amazon.co.uk Review Racking up impressive box office numbers right across the globe, the arrival of The Simpsons Movie onto the big screen proved, for many, to be more than worth the wait. But with its DVD release, there's a compelling argument that Springfield's finest have come back to their natural home. The film itself is primarily Homer-centred, with the head of The Simpsons family seemingly consigning Springfield to certain doom when he dumps his waste where he shouldn't. But, in the true spirit of the show, the plot takes a relative back seat to the antics of America's first family. And it's those antics that offer the film's gold. As you'd hope, it boasts several laugh-out-loud moments, from visual gags (the rock and hard place being a favourite) through to the by-now infamous Spider-pig. There's not quite enough material to keep the chuckle counter going for the full duration of The Simpsons Movie, and the criticism that it's effectively three episodes strung together has some truth to it. But you'd still be hard-pushed to complain for one key reason: The Simpsons Movie is grand entertainment, with plenty of rewatch potential. So while you can add us to the queue of people who wanted more Mr Burns, and while it doesn't quite measure up to some of the show's best episodes, The Simpsons Movie still delivers, and does it with some quality. And Spider-pig is a work of genius

Ads banner!!! February 15, 2010 Florent (France) If you like the Simpsons, you'll like the movie.
However, I was very surprised Fox added a big blue advertisement banner in the middle of the movie (during 10 seconds). OK, this is short but I think this is UNACCEPTABLE on a DVD! We have to go through the piracy warning(s) even if we buy the DVDs and now, they put an ad in the middle of the movie!
Classic Simpsons December 25, 2009 M. Hanson (Dorset, UK) You need to watch it several times to catch all the little gags you miss each time. Brilliant movie.
Spider Pig, Spider Pig... November 6, 2009 Ralph BDH (London UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Simpsons movie arrived during the great summer of movie discontent! Unfortunately it didn't do anything to make things better. Bart's naked skateboarding was amusing, while Homer's Summer romance with Spider Pig, along with his rendition of the Spider Pig song (based on the Spiderman theme from the original 70's TV show) were the highlights of the film. The choral rendition of the Spider pig song during the closing credits was also rather good.
Other than that the film was three TV episodes strung together, in fact it was three older TV episodes re-written and strung together, there were no new themes and all had been handled much better within the Simpson's TV series. The result was an OK, but an uninspiring 90 minutes which contained too few good jokes and only two golden moments.
Sincerely hope they try better with the next one.
It has it's funny moments, but it's mostly uneven October 15, 2009 D. W. Bissett (Cumbria, UK) I've been waiting for a long time for a movie of THE SIMPSONS (1989-????) to arrive. Ever since I saw the excellent SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT (1999) - one of the rarest examples that a movie based on a TV series is very good - I thought to myself 'if Stan, Kyle, Cartman & Kenny can have a movie, why not Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa & Maggie?'
Back in 2006, I was please to hear that THE SIMPSONS MOVIE was finally under way, but I was also worried. Ever since Season XII or XIII, the show has 'jumped the shark' on a massive scale. (The main reason the show is still going is because it's 20th Century Fox's biggest money-maker) THE SIMPSONS MOVIE finally came out in Summer 2007 and was a huge success.
Personal thoughts -- I like the movie and it's not as terrible as the haters say it was going to be. It's also a nice change to the never-ending CG-animated comedies Hollywood keep shamefully producing (Pixar is the ONLY film studio who knows how to make CG-animated films). But some of the jokes were flat and I can understand why everyone was disappointed with Mr. Burns' all-too-brief role.
The stories involving Bart spending more time with Flanders, and Homer with Spider-Pig, weren't very developed. The romance between Lisa and new boy Colin had no narrative function. Also, regardless of how dramatic it was, Marge leaving Homer has been done before.
It's not an huge letdown. Oh no! I loved the Green Day-Titanic gag, Bart's infamous skateboarding scene, the 'Grand Theft Walrus' game and, of course, the Spider-Pig song. I was also impress that they didn't use dozens of celebrities to make a guest voice appearance as they have done in the recent seasons.
Overall, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE is a fun film to watch, but I do agree it's not a patch on the best TV seasons (the first eleven) and it could have been so much more. Better luck next time, Matt Groening and co.

Not so much a return to form, as a reminder of how good it could have been. October 13, 2009 A. Bellerby (Pembrokeshire, Wales) The movie certainly has some of the edge which has been missing in recent years from the television series. It had some of those `laugh out loud, in an uncontrollable fashion' moments that characterised the early years, and have been all to often sadly missing of late. The plot, however, didn't feel like something which could not have been done in 22 minute episode. But nobody does satire like The Simpsons, and it was still really enjoyable experience.
