It's for kids let them judge November 6, 2008 Clattybrown (Scotland) I watched this with my 11 and 6 year olds and they loved it and so did they're friends, it was just OK to me but the film isn't made for adults is it? I see all the bad comments and ratings here are by adults or older teenagers, thats not fair on the film as the ones who enjoy it don't get their say and if they did this would be 5 star material all the way. It's colourful, magical and a sugary sweet tale, very entertaining. I won't go into film detail as others have done this before me. It's a very nice film for children (a movie the family can watch together).
don't waste your money November 1, 2008 Hamish Mctavish (Berkshire, U.K) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This has got to be just about the worst kids movie I have watched in a long time, considering the fantastic quality we have on offer. Although this film has some clever special effects it has zero else to offer! Dustin Hoffman's character is just painful to watch, the little kid is just about bearable but basically I wish I had not bothered. My 4 and 6 year old left the room and found alternative entertainment and my 11 year old fell asleep it was so dull. Save your money, get something else!
Magical July 18, 2008 Steven Stewart (steveo.stewart@hotmail.co.uk) Let me make this clear first. I didn't watch this film with any children, nor am I some sort of child in a mans body. I'm a lover of movies that seek to entertain, inspire and teach. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium does all three and the supporting cast to Dustin Hoffman really make this movie work. Dustin Hoffman plays the eccentric toy shop owner who's over 240 years old and a believer in magic. One day he tells his dependable shop manager, Mahoney played by Natalie Portman that he's "Leaving." Firstly he must hire an accountant who we come to know solely as Mutant played by Jason Bateman to sort out all his paperwork, all 240 years worth. This becomes a story of friendship, love, belief and living life to the full to achieve all you wanted to achieve. There are times in this film when it becomes truly heart wrenching. Especially the scene where Magorium finally leaves, but you become accepting of this, as that's what the movie's all about. Moving on. A very entertaining film for the entire family to enjoy and is something I'd strongly recommend.
Good, but not enough July 8, 2008 Valeria Pugiotto 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The movie is pretty good, but it could have been so much better. The problem is that it is evident the fact that the director was not sure where to get at. The action is confused at times, almost 'shifty'. And I was very disappointed by the way it ended. You can imagine what will happen next, but too much is left unresolved. A pity because I really liked Dustin Hoffman in this movie!
what you need to believe in, is you June 23, 2008 Ms. F. I. Macdonald (uk) A nice little film to watch that makes you want to believe in magic. A film about never giving up, being independant and believing in youself.Portman and Hoffman give good performances and after watching you are left with a nice warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
