Fantastic Drive. There are no hidden catches! January 3, 2009 J. F. Lucas (England) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
IMPORTANT! There are a few people below who have written some silly things about this drive as they don't really take the time to read the instructions and do things properly which is the culture these days - give a piece of high end technology to a monkey and what do you expect? Reformatting the Drive from FAT32 to NTFS, if you use the included software which is included in the installation files actually on the drive itself, takes about one minute, maybe less. The Memeo back up is a full copy - you just have to take the time to realise that the key is on the plastic packaging in the box. Any laptop or PC with a USB 2.0 port can use it. And the maximum capacity is 931GB as you would expect. It's so quiet you would hardly know it's on. The size of it is about as big as a volume of Lord of the Rings paperback. It's on my bookshelf and it's smaller than a lot of my books - a lot smaller and lighter than I thought it would be. Don't um and ar just buy it! This may not stay so cheap for long! Can you imagine 1TB for less than 80!! Amazing when you think back how much that would've cost a little while ago! The GB is dead, long live the TB!! Damn easy to use and I'm no technogeek. Just don't like people who review it without doing things properly. Especially the person who gave it a 2 star rating because the dimensions may have been written wrongly on the amazon website.
Very pleased January 1, 2009 L. Crane 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered my drivestation on 28th Dec about 11.00pm, it arrived on 30th Dec. Quick and easy to set up, software guides you through converting to NTFS. Easy to share on network through a pc, and just as fab through a USB network hub. Had considered an External network drive, glad I didnt bother now as the drivestation works just fine and was cheaper bought with the network hub than the NAS drives I had seen. Looking at the reviews probably more reliable too. So Far very pleased with purchase.
Big, quiet, looks nice and works well December 30, 2008 E. C. Carnochan (Dumfries) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent product far better than anything else I have used, quick transfer rates, quite and according to the box 75% cheaper to run. What more can you ask for? This product does exactly what is said on the Tin and also included in the box back up and encryption software which was really easy too use.
no 64 bit support December 29, 2008 Vicky (UK) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This product seems good (plug and play and silent) except that it doesn't support any 64 bit system and Buffalo website confirms that. I think they should have advertised this more clearly... So, I can't install their turbo usb or any software shipped with the drive. In order to convert the FAT32 system into NTFS, I had to use another computer 32 bits for that. I hope I don't have any bad surprises in future as I won't return this product...
Excellent Drive December 29, 2008 J. M. Webb (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is an excellent drive for the money. The drive is very compact, silent and does not get hot. The auto power saving function is excellent. Another reviewer said that the power saving software was not on the drive itself but I beleive it is as I have this drive connected to my XBox 360 and the drive switches on and off automatically in conjuction with the XBox which is a massive benefit as I don't have to remember to switch it off manually.
