Perfect for a replacement in a G5 iMac December 21, 2008 I. L. Halstead (That bit North of Watford, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whilst my iMac is getting slightly long in the tooth at 4 years old, it still has lots of useful life left. The supplied hard disk was getting full, so I decided to replace it. The procedure is straightforward on the revision B G5 iMac, and the drive worked perfectly first time, no jumpers required. This is a much faster drive than the previous one, also being a pretty fast drive in it's own right. It is also very quiet, and generates less heat - a consideration in the cramped case of the iMac. The only drawback? I shall need a bigger back-up disk at some point. Overall a great buy and definitely recommended.
Superb Drive Works Perfectly in a iMac G5 November 30, 2008 applsys (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Okay, I'm a little two minded on this one. I did alot of research as I wanted to upgrade my Apple iMac from 160gb factory drive to this 1TB. Alot of people in Americas noted this was one of the best and Amazon have it listed at a great price. Got the delivered next day with my amazon prime membership. I spent all weekend trying to get it working MacOS kept reporting a drive had been ejected. I spent hours before deciding it must be faulty. Using amazon returns service I was with a new one within a day or so, and sent the first one back. I've not looked back. Fitting was simple - remove 3 screws to access the iMac then a torx t20 to remove the holding plate for the drive. I used SuperDuper software to backup an image and restore it to the new one and was up and running within an hour. Having used this for a while now, the machine is much quieter and really fast speeds spining up the hard drives. All in all a great drive backed up by faultless service by Amazon.
Excellent (Topfield) PVR Upgrade Drive November 10, 2008 Gerdsooz (Winchester, United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I fit this drive in my Topfield 5800 PVR last week as an upgrade to a previous 750GB Samsung SATA drive! The Samsung drive was first class but this one trumps every aspect of my old drive (including capacity and price): It is quieter (almost inaudible), faster to spin up/down, cooler to the touch and of course less power hungry. I use a Sabrent SBT-STDB SATA to IDE Port Mini Converter which has worked successfully in my Toppy with both my Samsung and my new Western Digital drives. If you decide to get this drive for your Toppy make sure you read the relevant sections of the toppy.org.uk for further details on how to upgrade your hard disc drive.
Things you probably should know before buying November 6, 2008 Gary Fox (Sheffield, UK) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought a pair of these to create a home server for backup purposes, and I chose the 'green' ones because I figured they would not get as warm as others (I wanted to fit them into a small form factor PC). For that purpose, they're fine - in fact it's very hard to tell they're actually doing anything, there's no activity LEDS on them. However, these are shipped as OEM units, which means you get nothing apart from the disk - no cables, no instructions, no screws, not even any jumpers (which to be fair, you probably won't need - I needed them to throttle the drives because my PC doesn't support SATA-II). These units only support a SATA power connector - no ATX/Molex connector, so you'll probably need to buy at least a SATA cable and a Molex->SATA power cable too.
