I bought this product impusively, but this has turned out to be a good impulse. It is easy to set up and when mounted, it stays firm throughout the journey. The map is quite up to date and very helpful. The voice is quite clear. The only problem I have is that the lady does not use the word 'please' at the end of her instructions as we have in others. A bit impolite, but that is just me. But on the whole I will give this product 5 out of five on both functionality and price

3 out of 5 stars Not too bad   September 28, 2008

Not too bad. Maps are a bit old or at leat the information around them is - hotels, garages etc are out of date. Other than that it's OK. TomTom is the king of satnav though and can't really be topped. One thing to note - the package had been openned and obvioulsy used so beware of second hadn goods!

5 out of 5 stars Simple, works, cheap!   September 27, 2008

For 59 this is a bargain! I had put off buying a SatNav for some time as I couldn't justify spending 150+ on it. When I saw the mailshot for this I went ahead and bought it, thinking it might be just ok. In actual fact it is fantastic! The audio cues for turning are really effective as they tell you stuff like "after 200 yards, turn right then take third left". This might sound simple, but in a previous SatNAv I played with it told you only the next turn, and then almost too late to actually have time to take in what it was saying.

The sucker thingy for attaching it to your windscreen is really well designed. It attaches securely and is also easily removed thanks to the tab + lever sytem.

The screen is readable and clear, though sometimes a bit tricky in direct sunlight. The audio though means that you don't ofen need to look at it. The menu system is fantastic and I would give the software full stars for useability. From start to finish it is really, really simple to use and has a very intuative interface. Although the manual says it won't work with vista x64, I was able to download and update it on my Vista x64 (windows server 2008 to be exact!) system. I had a spare USB lead (USB->mini USB) from another windows mobile device and this works perfectly for charging and updating the software. It is not included in the package, but you can buy on ebay for about 2 if you don't have one. I don't need to use the in-car charger as charging it from a spare USB port keeps it working for ages (had it a week now and haven't needed to recharge it!)

One criticism I would have is that the maps aren't entirely accurate in some circumstances. It seems to count alleyways and some cyclepaths as roads! This is a minor niggle though and only occured when I was testing it near home - I live in a terrace with lots of small back lanes. It got me from York to Bradford without a hitch, which is a miracle for me as I have absolutely no sense of direction!

If you want a SatNav that does just what you want it to do, when you want it, then I can't recommend it highly enough. I don't know why anyone would pay more when this does exactly what you need it to do and does it really well.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it should   June 27, 2008

To paraphrase Monty Python, 'This is my theory, which is mine, my theory, yes it is, yes Chris". All technology goes through three phases. 1. When its new and simply cannot do much 2. when they put everything they can on it. In the case of Sat Nav this means MP3, personal updating, radio's, maps of outer Mongolia, the kitchen sink etc etc ad nauseaum. 3. When it is finally realised that we do not want and will never use all the bells and whistles unless we are very sad with a penchant for beep sounds and blue lights. This last it what this unit is. The Sat Nav and nothing else. What I wanted and what I paid for. Relatively cheap but seemingly well made it does what it should and no more. Easy enough to use, robust and clear instructions good pick up of signal and fluid instructions. A reccomendation and a good price.
