1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money   December 31, 2008
B.Baggins (UK)
I bought the the 8gb player around 15 months ago. When it arrived, it had grubby fingerprints on the back, so Amazon gave me a part-refund.

Player tends not to recognise a number of tracks, which makes them really hard to find. Some are listed only as one of many 'Track 1's. The player also had difficulty with 'Bad Tracks' which it refused to play altogether. These issues were frustrating but tolerable.

However, the player has developed another fault whereby it freezes, the screen goes blank and there is nothing that you can do to get the player to respond until the battery has drained completely. Ironically, although you can just make out on the very dark screen that the player is playing, it does not produce any sound. This has now happened twice at the beginning of long journeys which I'd hoped to spend catching up with some new music.

Positives are the build quality and you can supplement memory with micro sd cards. Clearly, though, this is all for nothing when the devise doesn't actually work.

Really disappointing; try something else instead

5 out of 5 stars Forget Ipods   December 1, 2008

What an excellent little device. Connects easily to the computer music can be dragged & dropped, so no problem loading the device. Will take an 8gb micro SD card, but takes about five minutes to refresh with a card that size. Radio works well. Haven't tried it with video as I think the screen is too small for that although very bright and possibly not a problem if your eyesight is better than mine. I only bought it for music and am well pleased with the product.

3 out of 5 stars Ok-ish   October 31, 2008

This is a decent piece of kit for the money but trust me, the good looks and cool clickwheel wear off after the first month(my experience). As i said it is good, nice ideas such as recorder and radio but you will want another thing later. Its a bit of a fashion item. Take the ipod classic 80 gb that i purchased recently. Really good memory and looks but, with 10 times the memory for double the price its a better buy and you will get people asking "whats that!" when with an Ipod, they know!

1 out of 5 stars Fiddly to use, packed up totally after 3 months   August 29, 2008

Well, I have to say I'm very disappointed in the Sansa... After my old IPod packed in, and tired of ITunes tying you in to their own MP3 format, I decided to try something different.

I wish I hadn't! The menu is fiddly to use, the software kept doubling up on songs, some songs wouldn't delete, and then eventually the whole thing packed up completely just three months of very light use; the screen has turned completely white and will not reset. Sansa support seem unable to suggest how to fix this, so I am having to return it. I will not be asking for a replacement!

4 out of 5 stars Superb and very robust   August 19, 2008

I bought three of these at separate times, one each for wife, daughter and I. We've not tried video but as MP3 players they are superb. We all have i-nique Sandisk Sansa E200 series 'BLACK' Silicone Skin Case & Armband (E250, E260, E270, E280) in various colours and use them in the gym, on hols etc... week-days mine is normally in my rucksack for use on tube/ trains etc...
We've had various players in the past (though not iPod since I refuse to join the MACalites) and none lived up to expectations. At the e280 price I expected a few niggles but there have been none. It works seemlessly with Windows Media Player (both licence protected and unprotected files) and no matter how many times they are re-charged, dropped or sat upon they all continue to work fine.
