One of the very best corded mice (for rightys only, though!) January 5, 2009 M. Appleton I got one of these from a friend who had upgraded to a wireless, having used cheapo generic wired opticals up to that point. The MX518 is supremely comfortable, being the corded precursor to the MX1000. It has a shallower thumb contour and is smaller overall so if, like me, you have large hands, you'll find the MX1000 and its siblings (G5 and G7) more comfortable. I rarely played mouse-based games before getting the 518 but it made such a difference that I became a born-again FPS addict. Being corded there is absolutely NO lag (which there is, no matter how small, with ANY wireless alternative), and it glides around with minimal effort on a reasonably clean and smooth surface. I do clean the feet regularly, though. The variable resolution is also excellent, with the very precise levels only being of use in games but having a very real benefit. At this price it's an incredible investment if you play games semi-regularly.
Awesome mouse December 16, 2008 Mr Mojo (UK) Ordered this on Friday, came the following tuesday, no hassle per usual. Pros: -Looks awesome, really like the dented/steel whatever it is design -Perfect shape for me, at first i thought it would be too big, but its the perfect size.(Ignore the guy who says this mouse is tiny, i have long fingers and its plenty big enough) -Extremely smooth movement across my standard mouse mat, so much better than my old RX650 for gaming. -Customisable buttons and sensitivity. Cons: (Minor niggles, this mouse is fantastic overall) -The software on the CD is a bugger, wont let you customise any settings. Dont bother with it, download SetPoint from the Logitech site, its the latest version. -Mouse scroll wheel movement isnt very smooth, really im just being picky here. Overall great, well worth the money, cant complain at all. Tried it on Call of Duty 4, now im getting more headshots per kill, it has definately improve my precision when aiming. Im not gonna lie and say this mouse has turned me into a pro gamer, but its helped.
Top mouse, amazing price! November 14, 2008 $ 4n_64 (United Kingdom) Hi, just bought this mouse and though i'd give it another go as before i bought a dodgy second hand one off ebay which ended up costing more than this new one. Anyway, about the mouse. Well straight away when you use it the mouse feels spot on in terms of accuracy and responsiveness. Dpi change with the buttons is a great feature, especially for fps games like cs 1.6 because it means that if you fancy sniping, then dpi can be lowered to say 800. Or maybe some fun with ak, then just up the dpi with the touch of a button. Talking about buttons, well they dont get in the way and are also easy to access, another good feature of the mouse. Mouse glides like a cloud on the mousemat. Looks really cool and is comfortable. it comes with a cd which has the logitech setpoint software which allows you to change a wide range of different settings like what dpi is configured, change what each buttons fucntion is etc. This software is NOT actually essential because the mouse operates normally without it, but its good if you like tweaking the mouse and stuff. I cant really fault it much, many gamers will tell how you good this mouse is, as obviously it main focus is for gaming and precision. Ive looked around on the net, and so far this seems one of the cheapest you will get it first hand. In conclusion its really worth the buy if your a hardcore or casual game, especially into fps.
On linux August 22, 2008 Balazs Dianiska (UK) Although I ordered this mouse for gaming and home use, when the package arrived to the office I could not stand opening it and trying it immediately. It came via second class post, the packaging had a basic padded envelope, and the standard box of the mouse. It contained manuals, install CD and the mouse itself. One of the first things I noticed was that the mouse has a really smooth run, thanks to the completely smooth plastic things on the bottom-front and bottom-end of this rat. The grab is comfortable, and big enough for my hand to sit comfortably. Its a real comfort after the slightly undersized mouse I had to use. The middle button has a bit surprisingly strong resistance, but apart from that the feel is great. Now for the biggest surprise of all: it works under Linux! Apart from one button with the window icon on it both the forward/back and the DPI increase/decrease buttons work as intended out of the box. I was using Ubuntu 8.04.1 (after the first fix for the Hardy Heron release) with 2.6.24-19-generic kernel. Dmesg log for the mouse: [168246.883929] usb 4-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [168247.062837] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [168247.081993] input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb4/4-1/4-1:1.0/input/input7 [168247.122639] input,hidraw3: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1
Hmm August 13, 2008 Sharon Shvaifel (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Logitech MX518 Optical gaming mouse doesnt look as good as others, but dont let that fool you. I used to use plain microsoft mice, maybe dell but nothing that was made special for gaming. I must say. as soon as you plug in the mouse you WILL feel how it glides, I bought the mouse with a razer mantis mouse mat, they are an AMAZING pair and more importantly the mouse doesnt weigh much, so its not much of a hassle. One of the main things i liked about it is that it is EXTREMELY comfortable. You have buttons to change sensetivity, and you also have a button to change windows, it comes in VERY handy as unlike pressing alt + tab it shows the name of the window, not just the picture. I must admin, when buying this mouse i wasnt sure, i thought it looked abit ugly and small, but it fits my hand perfectly, i find that this is by far the best mouse i have ever used. Worth EVERY penny you spend on it. If you are not sure, then i say buy it. its AMAZING Five stars, no question *****
