Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Chronos II maintains the stylish design and aluminium facia that made the original so popular, but is now available in two colours, has an improved display, automatic light sensor and includes FM with RDS. If you havent experienced DAB digital radio yet, youre in for a treat. Select stations by name, see news and track titles on the scrolling text display, tune at the touch of a button, and listen in crisp, clear, digital-quality sound. And theres more listening choice on DAB too in many areas up to twice as many stations as FM. Of course, Chronos II still has plenty of bedside features, such as a large clock display, four independent alarms (each of which can be set for weekdays only, weekends only or as a one-off), a snooze timer and a sleep timer. Other features include PUREs Intellitext , for browsing stored scrolling text, textSCANTM to pause and control scrolling text and a USB port to add new features as they become available.

4 out of 5 stars My pure chronos II   January 6, 2009

This DAB clock radio is everything you come to expect from PURE. Well designed, stylish and functional. It does exactly as it says on the tin. The DAB reception is clear and crisp with no distortion and the display lighting can be set between 3 levels to suit all types of eyes. The time is clear and easliy read, a problem I had with the PURE siesta which I ended up returning. The screen was too dim to read in the dark which kind of defeats the purpose of having a clock radio in the first place, if you ask me.

The setup of the unit is so easy... just plug it in and let it do a scan to find the DAB stations and set the time and you're up and running. Once small niggle I have, and it really is a very minor niggle which in no way detracts from the quality product, is that the time is in 24 hour format and I would have preferred the option for a 12 or 24 hour time display which the PURE siesta allows... but I can learn to live with that and maybe PURE will issue a firmware update to fix this in the future.

5 out of 5 stars A great little radio   January 5, 2009

I have already got one of these radios and my wife decided she would like to replace her old analogue radio. So I bought another of these radios for her for Xmas. There is nothing worse than two radios going off at once when one is analoge and one is digital. It sounds like an old school PA system. I think the Pure Chronos II is the 'bees knees', it does everything it is asked to do (admittedly I rarely listen to anything other than Classic FM). It is simple to use and set, has 4 alarm settings, ideal for me as I have differing times when I need to wake up on particular days/weekend etc. It does the job.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin   December 31, 2008

I am very impressed with this clock radio. The radio sound is clear and has an excellent stereo sound if you are listening with headphones late at night. I had no issues with tuning; in fact I had no need for the stringy bit of aerial wire, so it is curled up under the clock out of sight.
My only word of caution, is that if, like my wife, you like to set the time ahead of what it actually is (don't ask) you can forget it. The time is set automatically via the digital broadcast!

2 out of 5 stars Good but with some annoying flaws   December 24, 2008

On the whole this is a good product. The version i have a got a few years ago so they might have modified it. The radio is good the design is nice and it works well. However a few problems both with the display:

It's really bright, even at it's dimmest settings it can light up the room. Also it is designed for the radio so is geared to having two lines of text, When showing the time it show it really small with the date on the second line and doesn't show the time at all when playing radio.

I do like this product but it could be better.

As I couldn't decide between this and the Sony XDRC705DAB Clock Radio I did the logical thing and bought both! They had both received decent reviews and due to Amazons excellent return service I decided I had nothing to lose. So, tonight, I've pitted them against each other. Placed side by side I started them off scanning the airwaves. The Sony won this first round, capturing quite a few more stations than the Pure. Next, came the sound quality round. Again, the Sony won. The Pure sounds far more woolly with less resolution. As for ease of use I have to give this round to Sony again. I found the layout of the Pure's butttons confusing and although the menu system on both is very similar, the Pure's small display compared to the Sony's did make things less clear. Oh, and the Sony is smaller too so takes up less space on my bedside cabinet. So there you have it. If you are undecided like me between these two units, go for the Sony.
