Is that last "review" a joke?International Golf Pro is without a doubt, the worst golf "game" that I have ever played. You can't control your shots properly, there is no option to apply spin to the ball, it looks like a PSOne game and provides only three courses, with no career option.
Tiger Woods, Links, even Actua Golf 2 on the PSOne - all play better than this.
IGP misses the cut by a mile.
Whilst not boasting as many of the features that some high-end-of-the-market golf games offer, IGP nevertheless provides the player with a realistic golfing experience at a reasonable price - less than the cost of most green fees - and with a choice of match or shot-play modes, IGP is sure to provide many hours’ worth of entertainment! This easy to play game includes a score of player characters, both male and female, and features several play options from practice mode to competing against professionals over four rounds in tournaments.
As in real golf, the player must gauge the speed and direction of the wind, the lie of the ball, the position of the pin, which club to use and how much power to put into the shot. On-screen icons are there to guide the player, along with an overview of the hole, showing exactly where the ball is in relation to the green. The wind meter is particularly useful when considering where best to place your shot (especially if like me, you tend to slice off to the right most of the time!).
International Golf Pro offers a choice of three international courses, all beautifully rendered in three-dimensional graphics, giving the player a realistic ‘feel’ of the game. The character animations are motion-captured which enables them to not only move in a lifelike manner but also to show frustration or elation, depending on the shot!
The addition of whimsical touches such as fish and ducks swimming in the lakes and birds flying overhead, makes this game visually very pleasing.
The ambient sounds of birdsong and crowd noises add to the realism of this game and for all the ‘armchair’ golfers out there, there is even a helpful commentary, outlining the features and pitfalls at the beginning of each new hole.
To sum up, International Golf Pro is an easy to play game with no unnecessary complications but is nevertheless, technically accomplished and packed with solid gameplay dynamics. Aimed at sports fans that want a game they can just pick up and play, without having to create complicated characters & scenarios, IGP is real value for money.
