Amazon.co.uk Review

It's the game that never should've worked. Normal licensed games are usually bad enough but the game of the toy of the film? Clearly the Force was with developer Traveller's Tales though because Lego Star Wars I and II were huge critical and commercial hits that showed that not only could licensed games be good but that titles aimed at kids and the family could be just as innovative and entertaining as any other. Clearly not wishing for any of the new consoles to miss out on the fun this is a compendium of both games with a bunch of new extras thrown in on top.

Together the two games cover both the prequel and original trilogy, with each film given six separate levels of its own, one of which is vehicle based. The rest of the levels though are deceptively simple action adventures with a built-in co-operative mode that anyone can join in and leave whenever they want. The combat is simple enough that anyone can play and you never really die, leaving the most complex part of the gameplay the always cleverly designed puzzles.

For this special version of the games extra levels have been added in (including the Zam Wessell chase from Attack of the Clones) as well as new bonus missions, ten new bounty hunter missions and the ability to play any of the characters in any of the levels. Add in a new online co-op mode for the PS3 and 360 and this really is the complete saga.

5 out of 5 stars so much fun to be had, for casual and hardcore gamers!   December 27, 2008
As a bit of a hardcore gamer myself, I picked up this game thinking it might be minimally decent. Now I know that this game is alot better than I estimated. Boss battles, minigames, collecting money, scouting for secrets...

Replay value: 10/10 Thanks to minikits being unreachable without replaying with new characters, it is worth playing through again. And the game is long...

Graphics: 10/10 Awesome graphics, look so like the console counterparts.

Gameplay: 9/10 Very fun destroying enemies, collecting things and hunting darth vader down.

Cutscenes: 7/10 Not very good, but they are very humurous and represent the most serious star wars films in a clevery, funny way for children.

If you like lego, or star wars you'll enjoy this more. I'm not a fan of either of them, but I still love this game and according to the ingame clock I have invested 100+ hours and completed the game 100%. You should do that too, for the money this is great value and I give it an overall score of 9.8/10.

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, it's great   October 30, 2008

So we all love Star Wars, but it's suffered from some slightly ropey video games. But this one is ace. It's very easy to pick up. It's funny but it's also gerat fun. It has replay value, entertainment value and fits in your pocket (well, it does when it's in the DS. If it's not in the DS then the cartridge will fit anywhere.

It's surprisingly addictive. Easy to play through, but much harder to do all the other tasks - finding red bricks, minikit parts etc is tough. So this is highly recommended

4 out of 5 stars its lego, its star wars...   July 7, 2008

Lego Star Wars for the DS is a fun filled game that will provide a challenge while at the same time not prove so demanding that you will never get the chance to complete the game.

After completing the first mission all levels are unlocked and you are free to play any of the 6 episodes you wish. Some characters are available from the outset while others become available on the completion of the various levels. (providing you can afford them at the bar)

Mini games provide a worthwhile distraction as does the ability to replay completed missions with any character in your inventory. This will allow you to pick up the red bricks and mini kits you may have missed on the first or second time round.

Although I was initially hooked I do feel this game is limited in two respects:

1. It is very easy to complete the missions.

2. Once completed it didn't leave me wanting to go back and complete each mission to 100%. Yes it is fun to select your own choice of character for free play but this novelty soon wears of.

All in all this is a good game and I feel it is probably one of the better games I have played on the DS. The ability to play with all the characters of the Star Wars series and fly some of the ships and a unique use of the touch screen allows, in my opinion, for a solid 4 stars.
