internet connection/ empire. November 9, 2008 D. fulcher (u k.) 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have deepest sympathy with fans of total war without internet connection, it must be like , well to be honest i can,t imagine my life without total war, over the last decade i have used this (probably the greatest strategy game of all time) to de-stress from work, diploma and NVQ courses and of course the kids,i am a 46 year old bloke that reads all the great novels from Bernard Cornwall to Simon Scarrow and the factious to the fictitious is very slim. I feel its been one of the greatest history lessons in life i have ever had. I hope empire will be another great game that is more than just a game but also a road to greater emotional, physical, inspiring and amazing game to detail in history.

I feel I should balance out the review below as its a bit unfair to judge a game that's not even out on the fact that you need the Internet to play, a factor which now affects a relatively small proportion of gamers. Creative Assembly however, have released a number of excellent games in the Total War series and I fully expect Empires to live to up to all our expectations. I know I will be buying it.
Must have an internet connection October 31, 2008 Mr. Glenn Jones 18 out of 71 found this review helpful
A bad start for SEGA Total War. SEGA have just announced that Steamworks will support both the retail and electronic versions of the Empire: Total War game. To play single-player, you will need to connect to STEAM through the internet after installing the game. As I have no internet connection at home, I have just cancelled my order.

ok so its not out yet, and we cant review something we havent played on, but its total war, and for the dedicated weve played it right from the start, and theyve never let us down once, yea you need to connect to the internet to play, but im sure thats just a registration thing, like most pc games now, were stuck with DRM-esque games, but just install it register it and then disconnect, i done tyhat with COH and it worked fine offline, and if u dont have the net, im sure setting up a dial up connection for a few minutesd would be well worth it. this game will rule, and may cause divorces!
