something different January 8, 2009 Stevie W. (Scotland) It's refreshing to see a game like this that is not centered around combat and is instead focused on allowing the player to move around. The controls are fairly straight forward to pick up and become quite natural after a short while playing - it wasn't long before I was jumping/sliding/climbing/swinging/wall-running my way around the levels. This game is about getting through levels quickly and there is great satisfaction in maintaining a high speed run through a level as you navigate through a level without interuption. The movement is quite instinctive and I'm now finding myself frustrated in other games that don't have the same amount of 'go anywhere' control that Mirrors Edge has! As other reviewers have pointed out, the combat is not a strong point of the game, however in most situations it can be avoided. Mirrors Edge doesn't aim to be a shooter, so it's best not to play it that way. Overall I've been very impressed with Mirrors Edge and would definitely recommend it to anyone look for something different to the standard FPS game.
Far too short January 8, 2009 Mr. J. K. Haller This is a fantastic game, very original, but on the down side, it is far far too short and there should be a free roaming bit, where you can just go anywhere. this game could have been outstanding and quite possibly one of the best Xbox360 games ever if it had been longer and had a free roaming section, i would guess at Mirrors Edge 2 being on the horizon, come on EA, make it longer. I completed it in 2 weeks only playing on it occasionally
Ace game - really impressive January 6, 2009 megamarble (South Yorks, UK) I have just finished Mirror's Edge on Medium difficulty. Actually the fact that i finished the game should give you a indication of what i felt of it as i rarely finish a game - i normally get bored. M.E. has an outstanding control system and after playing through the brill tutorial on the demo i knew i was going to like this game. For me the postivies were... * Well placed checkpoints, some quite close together so if you die, and you will, yoiu don't have to repeat to much of the level * great puzzles - how the hell do i get up there? * a great hint system. You use all things red - boxes to jump off, pipes to climb up/down, doors to charge through, enemies to kill or avoid - all of these are coloured red. ALSO if you are not sure which direction you should be heading then hold down the red button and it will show you (although it doesn't show you HOW to get there!) * a great feeling of vertigo on some of the higher levels On the negative side the game is not that long. It probably took me about 7 hours to play through. It does have a few extra things to do after completion like time trial and collecting 30 boxes but i probably won't bother with those. The game is now available quite cheap now though (about 20) and fofr this i think it is definitley worth buying The game that i think M. E. is most like (because of the jumping and puzzles) is tombraider but M.E. is definitely better than it.
Put your Faith in this game, you won't be disappointed... January 5, 2009 ratstails (North Shields, UK) Over Christmas I played through Tomb Raider Underworld Tomb Raider Underworld (Xbox 360), Prince of Persia Prince of Persia (Xbox 360) and tonight I just completed Mirror's Edge. The latter was by far the best. The visuals are stunning! A limited colour palette with red, turquoise and orange in predominance against white, makes for a stylishly beautiful and overall sophisticated effect, which in places took my breath away. The free-running skills take practice and patience but once they become smooth it feels great. I am not a fan of combat and managed to avoid most confrontations through the game choosing to focus on the puzzles. Obviously, there is rough path to take through the game (lit with red objects) with a range of objectives to meet, otherwise what would be the point? However, there are massive variations in this route you choose to take as your skills progress the movements become more sleek, intricate and impressive. In the time trails it is up to you to work out the quickest route to each checkpoint and you ARE able to roam freely if you desire. By using Xbox Live, you can learn clever routes and new moves by racing ghosts. If you enjoyed the free-running in Assassins Creed or the Tomb Raider series this is definitely the one for you, but if you prefer a standard first person shooter, this may take you out of your comfort zone. Highly Recommended!
Great to see something different January 4, 2009 Mr. D. A. Wilmot (Nottingham, UK) Great innovative game... As good as the are you kinda get bored of FPS games blending into one another. This game flows so well and really gets your blood pumping as you run get your runners speed up...
