Sonic's Back July 13, 2006 sevenstar (Devon, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Sonic's back and here to stay. Sonic Team vowed this would bring the series back to it's roots and has got pretty close to that. The speed is mind-blowing, better than before. The action isn't bad either, working in teams to defeat Robotnik's minions. There are four teams: Team Sonic, Team Rose, Team Chaotix and Team Dark. There are three characters in each team, each with a different ability: speed, power and fly. Each character has plenty of different moves aswell. At first this is an odd experience. Yet soon you get used to it and swapping between characters and using different moves becomes second nature. Yet the game isn't perfect; there are some incredibly difficult and frustrating sections. Usually, just round the corner there's something amazing and exciting. [...]
Sonic is back in action and back in 3D. June 10, 2006 DEC Normington (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had been hoping to get hold of a decent Sonic game for years. There are so few Sonic games that have been made available for the PC. I don't have a PS2. Anyway, the game is fast-paced, naturally, and follows the premise of old-school Sonic games, but in true 3D. It features brilliant combo moves, exciting action and a presents a fun challenge. The special effects are most impressive. It has also given me a chance to become acquainted with some of the newer characters, whom I could grow to like. It's true that the storyline is thin and some of the voice acting is poor, but at least there is enough story to go on and the voice acting is not cringeworthy. (At least, that's my opinion) The game itself is fun. I recommend it to Sonic fans - or fans of the other characters, even!
Slow down! March 5, 2006 A reader (Ireland) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sonic games have almost made a trademark for being obsessed with speed, but this is too much... With no storyline, you are flung into a "level" where your only goal is to finish, with no other objectives, Its all very much arcade gaming. The team idea is very thin, with each team having three members, Speed, Flight and Combat. I dont divide into names, simply because they are all the exact same when in play...The Grapics are pretty enough, but with a game length of around 4 hours, there is no great reason to buy this, unless you are a huge sonic fan or have an obsession with speed...
