A Very Good Chess learning Programme May 15, 2008 O. M. Aszkenasy (Washington, Tyne & Wear United Kingdom) This game is really good if you want your child to learn how to play chess. Learn about how the pieces move, setting up the board, checkmate and stalemate, Back Rank and Smothered Mate, Up the stairs mate, Cornering the King, Opposition, Castling and how much a piece is worth. I rated it 4 stars because you have to go around a long path in order to get anywhere and also the endless stories are also a bit annoying. So, if you want your child to learn how to play chess you cant get better than this.

I bought this to help me to teach a class of children chess, but it will be no use at all. The endless stories, the fact there's no menu and you have to follow these children around a long long path in order to get anywhere (and ESC seems to be the only way of stopping them and being able to exit) - it all makes the CD completely useless for our needs. I'm sure that, based on these positive reviews, it's a very good resource if you're at home with endless time and patience, but no good for us at all.
Keeps aborting.... August 30, 2006 Mr. Peter Brown (Andover, Hants, United Kingdom) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Bought this on 28 Aug 06 - package completely different. Should not be a problem BUT this one keeps aborting. Comes up with a "Script Error - Retry Yes/No" box. Yes keeps the error on the screen, and No dumps you out of the program to Windows. Reloaded 5 times - fails each time. It loaded and run on XP on an Administrators account so it's not a Permissions issue. Will contact product support or return it to Amazon - watch this space.

Fritz and Chesster November 16, 2004 Ellie Hart (Middlesex United Kingdom) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
We bought this game for our six year old and he has loved it. It starts with very simple games which teach how the different pieces move and moves on to exercises which teach rules and strategy. It has taken him from knowing nothing about chess to being able to play a full game (at a basic level) against the computer, all in a fun and interesting way. We love the way chesster the mouse can play at so many levels, so that my son can play him and win and yet always be challenged. This is a genuinely fantastic way for a child to learn to play chess, i highly recommend it!
