A good product from a trusted name January 6, 2009 shaz17 (England) Very easy to install and set up. I can't fault McAfee in any way, it doesnt use a lot of resources like the likes of Norton and blocks a lot of spam etc. It found a few things on my daughters laptop like spam and phishing tools but it soon got rid of them. It quarantined a few things. My daughter panicked when she went to a web page and Web Site Safety Advisor popped up with something so I explained to her that McAfee was protecting her as it didnt think it was a suitable site, it was Bebo I think...lol She clicked allow and it was fine after that, but I thought it was good. I must admit I prefer McAfee Total Protection 2009, as it gives you a little extra and seems to be cheaper at the moment. This is what was on the laptop when I bought it, but only a a trial. Works well on XP and on Vista, no problems and such a superb piece of safety software I recommend it to all.
Solid, reliable and fast January 6, 2009 B Smith (London) I've been a McAfee user for some time now. And after switching from Norton, the switch is incomparable. Norton slows down your computer SO much from my experience. Where as with McAfee you barely notice that it's running. The new 2009 version has a lot of nice new features, and it's cool that you can use it on 3 PCs, however as another user describes, the year lasts as soon as you install it on the first pc, so install it on all of them on the same day i'd recommend!
very good anti-virus January 2, 2009 Sam (York, UK) Like many other anti-virus software, this new version of McAfee offers a very good choice of solid protection to computers. Easy to install as it is always the case with McAfee, the interface is simple, and does not require a lot of experience to find your way around. The good thing about McAfee which I found in previous versions and in this one as well, is that it does make you feel that it is actually working and protecting the computer. The firewall is a bit intrusive, it checks with you about whatever is going on in the computer, which can be extremely annoying at the beginning, but then it learns all permits and access rights by itself. it does also offer anti-phishing protection, which is very useful, but it did slow down my internet browser, and it started to freeze, so I turned that off. There is also anti-spyware, and the best tool of all is SiteAdvisor, which is becoming an essential really. The anti-virus i suppose is the most important part. It has fast and frequent updates, so you need internet connection at all times. It takes long time to do a scan, but not longer than any other software, and of course it depends on how big the hard drive is. Very trusted software, easy to use, no compatibility issues or clashes. If you already have a firewall, i suggest you turn it off, otherwise, you would have a very slow computer. Very recommended, one of the best anti-virus solutions at the moment.
Exactly what you expect January 2, 2009 Robert Smith (North Wales) My PC runs Window Vista Business and am at present using Kaspersky virus software, which is very good but recently it has been blocking my ability to log on to my email's, so I thought I would have another try with McAfee. Installation is straight forward, couple of restarts which is the norm. There doesn't appear to be anything new, it has all the standard anti anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-phishing and firewall protection, so as a package it is everything that you want. The one thing I dislike is the tool bar it sticks on my PC, I "don't!" want anymore tool bars to help me search the net, I already have Google and eBay, It appears the only way of removing it is a complete de-install, which I will do and reinstall Kaspersky. On a score for Virus software it has to be five stars, the fact it puts a tool bar on my PC, I would give it one star, but that would be unfair to the software which is very good.
A good product from a trusted name January 1, 2009 James B. Spink (Kent, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
McAfee is one of the most trusted names in Internet security packages and they have been making well regarded software for over twenty years. This Internet Security 2009 option is the middle product in McAfee's current range, offering everything that VirusScan Plus does with additional anti-phishing, ID theft protection and parental controls. The Total Protection option offers additional SiteAdvisor Plus and comprehensive password protection which are not provided here. It may be worth checking out the Total Protection 2009 option as, at the time of writing, Amazon are offering it for about 15 cheaper than this package! Also you will need to decide whether you need a single user version or one for three PCs, as both are available. There are plenty of security safeguards provided with Internet Security 2009 without it being overloaded with additional tools and features you may not need. SiteAdvisor is McAfee's unique way of giving web sites a safety rating by marking them red, amber or green BEFORE you look at them; useful but not perfect. There are good anti-virus and anti-spyware included which are automatically updated throughout your one year subscription, plus a two-way firewall and a network manager (3 PC version). Altogether a useful software package which is straightforward to install and use. If you are looking for a big name in internet security and, for whatever reason, may not want to use Norton, then McAfee could be your best bet.
