for pricebusting internet security. December 23, 2008 Jackson T. De Jesus (IOM) Installation is straight forward. Very easy to install and to run, simple appearance is a click that makes it easy to use. some may find their pc tends to slow down but i guess it varies on the processsor. if you cant buy some popular cash ripping internet security especially when they just got out of the market, buy this one.
Sensible, secure and not as annoying as many December 19, 2008 Ophiicus (Norwich) This has everything I want in an Internet security suite. I require a firewall, anti-spy/malware, antivirus and network security. This also offers anti-spam, anti-phishing, IM encryption (Yahoo and MSN) amongst others. There is a version up from this: "Total Security" but I already have back-up and system optimisation adequately covered. I should probably point out that I am an advanced user and so setting up the wizard and Bit-Defender account was easy for me. This might not be the case for less proficient users. It installed efficiently enough, with a slight glitch when it told me to eject the disc and then informed me there was no disc in the drive, but I think that's more a windows issue. I have used Bit-Defender before and only changed because I heard other things were more efficient. However, on running the first scan it picked up on things, albeit low-risk, which McAfee and Kaspersky both had missed, so it seems to have caught up. One thing I always liked about it was the little window which appears bottom right of screen indicating file and Internet activity: I find this to be very useful and informative. I know it annoys some people, and it can be hidden in this version. The GUI is attractive, efficient and reasonably well laid out: I went for the advanced menu. I have been able to find everything I wanted to find, in most cases with no problem whatsoever, and in just the one case of customising scheduling, with only minimum frustration. The things which have impressed me most are the ability of the firewall to OK connectivity without asking permission for the blatantly obvious (browsers and email apps) but still informing you that it has done so and still asking for those things which are not obvious, informing you at the time of whether it has found the application in question to be clean. Also I like the fact that my Mozilla apps are fully supported, both Firefox and Thunderbird. Furthermore, it does not constantly seek to update itself in an irritating manner, unlike another application which shall remain nameless (it begins with a K and ends in an aspersky). I have been running it just over a week at time of this edit, so it is possible I will find further fault with it yet. I have, so far, encountered one small problem: I use Thunderbird as an RSS reader and it is noticeably slower since BitDefender went on, although still useable. Otherwise it seems to be a comprehensive and effective suite. On that basis I would definitely recommend that you consider it seriously.
Very solid solution December 18, 2008 B Smith (London) A very solid security solution here, it had a very easy install and runs quietly in the background. A big bonus to users will be that it DOES NOT SLOW DOWN YOUR COMPUTER like other solutions like Norton which are notorious for doing so. However the interface is very basic, and for the price it seems very basic. I'd suggest that you could use similar free alternatives and get similar results. Examples include AVG Antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall, both of which are free and are just as good as this product set.
Fantastic A/V software December 17, 2008 Adamski (UK) I have to say that this is one of the better AV packages on the market. It works in the background with no real hog on resources - just as it should. The interface could be better and more informative but it works and it detects things well. I think more people should investigate this brand as it easily competes with its more expensive (and resource-hungry!) rivals.
Nice product- recommended! December 12, 2008 M. W. Hatfield (Gainsborough, Lincolnshire) This is simple to use and install, doesn't take up too much space and does what it says on the tin. It works! The price is reasonable, the instructions clear- buy with confidence.
