Amazon.co.uk Review When it's time to divide and conquer, the right tools are vital. Whether partitioning to create a multiple-OS machine or just to improve efficiency, users of PartitionMagic 7.0 will get the job done quickly and easily. Still, novice computer users should be extremely wary of trying this--or any other low-level operation--without patient and trusted help, as it is all too easy to make serious, irrevocable mistakes and lose precious data. That said, most who know enough about hard drives to know they need new or resized partitions should find PartitionMagic 7.0 simple and headache-free. Designed for Windows XP, PartitionMagic 7.0 7.0 does fine with earlier Windows versions and supports hard drives up to 80 GB. The BootMagic utility makes switching between operating systems as simple as rebooting. While this wizard-driven software might make power users suspicious, it does make life much easier for all users and is still flexible enough to arrange partitions to everyone's satisfaction. While many folks will use this package once and never see it again, experienced users can resize partitions on the fly and tweak to their heart's delight. It's inevitable that some hardware configurations won't work with PartitionMagic 7.0, and that this can occasionally lead to catastrophic errors; it is absolutely essential for all users to back up crucial files beforehand. PowerQuest is generally good about providing support and patches for configuration problems, so it's best to check their Web site for information before running it. Despite all the caveats, this is simply the best set of tools available for quick partition management. --Rob Lightner, Amazon.com

Partition Magic V7.0 November 8, 2002 Electronic Dave (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This product is one of a kind and allowed me to install 4 versions of Windows (WFW 3.11, Win 95b, Win 98SE & Win ME) on the same hard disk (until I puchased Windows XP). It is let down by its omission of Windows XP support in the manual, although the product say it supports it (i.e. installation) you can only convert Windows XP from FAT32 to NTFS by using the built in Disk Manager in XP. I was disappointed when I couldn't converted it and lost 2GB of data (backed up of course) when converting it back to FAT 32 (using XP Disk Manager). Is says that Win XP can be installed on a logical drive on a secondary hard disk but unfortuntely does not show you how to do this (which would have been very useful). Overall I was pleased with the inclusion of BootMagic which lets you load up an operating system of your choice. I have had no problems. Its a good idea or project to split up your hard drive for backup purposes (keeping operating systems and your data seperate can increase performance) and I would recommend this product to anyone wishing to do so. Please however be carefull with Windows XP as it can only be converted from inside itself and not using Partition Magic (as I've discovered, I think). And no I don't work for PowerQuest!!!
MAgic when you need it June 22, 2002 Normann Aaboe Nielsen (Odder Denmark) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
When you need the magic of resize your partitions AND having data on them - this is what to use. And no, the manual is a disaster (too complicated) and I know, installing dual boot is difficult - never mind: I need a tool to resize / repartition / redo whatever filesystem I want (be it NTFS, FAT, FAT32, Linux, HPFS or whatever). This is it!Oh, by the way: Remember to read & understand the warnings that the program may present to you: I lost 20 GB data that way. Oh, well: Just goes to prove that the thing is powerfull...
You'll get there, eventually. March 30, 2002 J. Mcgregor 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
This software makes partitioning a disk relatively easy, although I admit to a few false starts, largely because the manual reads as if every second chapter has been ripped out! Why oh why are software manuals so absolutely useless? I now have Windows 98 on one part of my hard disk and XP on another. The software includes Bootmagic which allows dual booting. Mind you, now I've managed this I've forgotten why I wanted two operating systems in the first place.

I'll give this product 3 stars. While I've now after one week of use mastered the techniques involved in the use of partition magic, I just wish the instructions would be a bit more clear about using the product with Windows XP and the NTFS file system in general. Otherwise, no problems, and I'm about to add a 3rd operating system.
Partition Magic is Magic!. March 26, 2002 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I had a problem of resizing my boot partition and tried everthing possible under Windows XP to do it, and without success. I even went on the net for a quick fix download, but none worked. I then purchased a copy of Partition Magic 7.0 from Amazon and it arrived the next morning - was back in business within 15 mins of installing the software. This is truely a time-saving and hair-saving piece of software - pity Microsoft don't incorporate it into their wonderful XP Operating System.
