Why do they have to make it so difficult December 18, 2008 Doug (York, England) I am sure this is as good as any other piece of security software. However it is a nightmare to install. You have to set up a Windows One Care account, set one machine as the hub, then when installing this on other family members PC's you need to go back to the original machine to allow them to join your hub. Why? Why make it so difficult for us to load their software. Why not give three licence keys? Why not think about the customer and make something that does what it says on the box and can be installed in under two hours????
Solid and unobtrusive December 10, 2008 Kevin O'Keefe (Yorkshire, England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As I have come rather late to reviewing this product there's no need for me to describe OneCare's features as they have comprehensively been covered already. However my overall impression of this suite is that it is a very effective and unobtrusive package that demands the minimum of involvement from the user once installed. Having recently tried the latest versions of AVG (paid version) and Norton 360 I would say this is easily of the equal of Norton 360 in terms of ease of use (although I still favour Norton - despite historical misgivings). It also has the added benefit of offering the peace of mind that only a dedicated Microsoft product can bring. I would happily recommend this but would draw people's attention to the review by Mr M.A. Reed who suggests that ongoing support for this product may be terminated in around six months and Microsoft will produce a free version anyway. Still, good product sensibly packaged.
its ok December 9, 2008 J. Richards (Caldicot, South Wales) This is a good product from Microsoft, only problem is the fact that it only accepts payments from Direct Debit and Credit cards. No Debit cards unfortunately which is a bummer for those without Credit cards. The DD feature is awkward with MS rejecting them 9/10 times. I transfered from Norton to this in the hopes of something better, i don't think i got it.
Good Product Very Good Price December 5, 2008 B. Calay (london) I bought this MicroSoft antivirus software because I thought it's made by microsoft for MS Windows XP..so there should be no problems..well I was right..! VERY good product very easy to use and set up.It run's in the background with no errors or problem. The only issue I have read about in the last few days was that it failed basic "lab tests" that are conducted by industry watchdogs..I've had no problems with virus etc so I cannot pass comment..
Windows Have Withdrawn From The Market. November 19, 2008 Mr. M. A. Reed (Somewhere, GB) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Microsoft announced that it will offer a new security solution to consumers at no cost beginning in the second half of calendar year 2009. This new offering will focus on getting the majority of consumers the essential protection they need by providing comprehensive, real-time anti-malware protection, covering such threats as viruses, spyware, rootkits, trojans, and other emerging threats, in a single, focused solution. In order for Microsoft to focus on delivering this new security solution to millions of customers around the world, they have decided to phase out Windows Live OneCare and will discontinue retail sales of Windows Live OneCare subscription service beginning June 30, 2009. Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management for the Online Services and Windows Division at Microsoft, said in an interview. "Live OneCare was tailored for developed markets with broadband...and it's not meeting the needs of a lot of customers." Joris Evers of McAfee said the news signaled a defeat for Microsoft. "Consumers have voted; OneCare, in its two years on the market, has achieved less than 2 percent market share," he said in an interview. This product is now obselete.
