Fiddly January 5, 2009 Hamstead (Midlands UK) I have just changed to a new PC running Vista, so I thought this was a good opportunity to try out this product via Amazon Vine. The old PC was running Microsoft Digital photo editor 6, and when I find what I've done with the master disc, I'll be installing it on my new PC. Photo plus has some excellent features, but to me it's not half as simple to use as the Microsoft programme. I like to be creative and alter photos to compose stories in Movie Maker. I'm no expert, just a dabbler and Photo Plus doesn't make it easy to start clicking and creating. You need to get used to its raft of tools. The Microsoft programme does enable the rank amateur to get in there almost from the word go. So yes, I am sure this is a good product with lots of bells and whistles, and it's great value, but it's not easy to use straight away if you have no previous experience of photo-editing.
Really quite tricky but I will perservere January 1, 2009 RozziD (Cambridge, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I started using this piece of software as a total novice when it comes to photo manipulation. From the little I do know, I think that there are many similarities between this and Photoshop Elements although this is considerably less expensive. My first observation was that there seems to be a lot to learn, but there are some very helpful 'show me' features which almost talked me through the process I was trying to complete. However, some of these help pages do expect a small amount of knowledge as I found out, to begin with, that I needed help from my partner to find some of the toolbars I needed to use and was just expected to know where to find. Having had a good play with some, and by no means all, of the features, I have to admit that I do like this programme and expect that it will get easier to use as I become more familiar with all its features. I have managed to produce somoe simple manipulations already and am keen to learn more about what this program has to offer. I think that once I fully get to grips with it, I believe that this program will offer all the features I need at my level of photography.
Good but I would rather have Photoshop December 24, 2008 DRJ Sayer (UK) A well priced, usable piece of software. I have not had time to use all its functions but have found it useful to touch up hastily taken photos for a recent presentation. This program is a serious contender amongst the digital imaging giants but as a user more familiar with adobe (but not Photoshop) I found it counter intuitive. This is un-doubtable a powerful piece of editing kit, and I certainly would recommend it as a competitor to photo-shop elements to those on a budget but it is not a good viewing program so do not set it to automatically be the program which opens all of your images. It is also frustrating that it outputs images in its own format and not one of the more universal ones - or maybe that just my inexperience... I would still rather use adobe.
A great product in this price range. December 18, 2008 Master Baker (Narnia, Wardrobe.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Has an excellent set of features and is well worth the asking price. The batch tools and and smart-filter layers are as good as a professional package costing much more. No compatability problems yet and I don't expect any, it just seems to work out of the box, I wish more programs did. I still use photoshop for a fe things, but this is a lot quicker for most things. Genuinely useful.
A new area of software for me, but an excellent way to start! December 18, 2008 B. Smyth (Crawley) This is an area I've never really touched on before but with my evergrowing collection of photos I thought it was probably time to get myself some pukka software to deal with them. Many reviews have compared this product with its rivals - something I'm not able to do so hopefully this will give a pretty unbiased review. The installation of this was a breeze, installed with minimal fuss. There's nothing worse than having to wait an eternity for software to install, or worse still, fail! It is worth noting though that this software does require quite a bit of RAM and a decent video card to get the most out of it. But that's the same as most photo editing software suites. The things you can do with this suite is tremendous, I know I'm only a beginner in this area but I didn't know so much could be done. Improving skin colour, red eye removal, blemishes on the photo, or having someone's finger just in the photo where they have held the camera wrongly. All these things can be removed easily. You also have different lens and filter options to change the appearance of your photo - creating some rather interesting results. I am sure there are far more features in this program that I'm missing but from what I have experienced so far I am very impressed. The package is also excellent value at just under 40, I was expecting it to be at least double - which would put it on par with it's rivals. If you are a casual/intermediate photographer and are looking for a fully featured program, you can't really go wrong here. As I find more features to this program I'm sure my photos will be coming out even more professional looking. Overall I'm very pleased.
