Turbo Cad Deluxe 14 April 5, 2008 L. A. Grantham (UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I am very disappointed with this software. I wanted an easy to use 2D/3D drafting package and was misled by the positive reviews. This programme is just a watered down version of the Pro edition and fails in so many areas. The training guides make constant reference to the Pro edition only. All in all a great disappointment and a waste of money as I now have to invest in some other package in order to complete my projects.
Limited 3D capabilities - Disappointing February 7, 2008 Yoga Fan (England) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I wanted a 3D modelling application to create engineering design ideas that I could use in presentations. Turbocad Deluxe 14 looked like a suitable product at a very good price. You are supposed to be able to download a 15 day free trial and they send an activation key by email. The only thing I received though was an advert inviting me to buy other software products. I allowed myself to be seduced by a few positive reviews and some good looking pictures on the TC website and so I bought the product. In reality, the "Deluxe" program is a "light" version of Turbocad Pro which costs considerably more. Many important tools necessary to make it more usable are missing. There are too many to mention but for example, the fillet and chamfer commands for solids are omitted. To achieve the same operations it would take some time consuming boolean or slicing operations to achieve the same thing. You can incorporate chamfers and fillets into a 2D sketch and then extrude the section but this is not always possible or convenient. Once you've made the solid from a 2D sketch you cannot modify the solid by changing the sketch - unlike the Pro version. Much of the help file and many of the tutorial examples are aimed at the Pro version and are useless in the "Deluxe" version. The help file tends to emphasise the limitations of it compared to the Pro. The program works OK as a 2D cadd application but there are many similar programs on the market that are cheaper or even free. This is not a well-featured cad system at a low price and does not deserve favourable comparison with more expensive programs. The TC website has a feature comparison chart but it is difficult to assess from it the impact of not having the missing features. If you think this program would be useful to you, I would strongly recommend trying the trial version before you even consider buying.
