2 out of 5 stars Not very good   December 1, 2008
Dr. W. E. Allen (Belfast, UK)
This package installed easily enough on my PC, but be warned do not use the automatic function for scanning for media files or it will pick up every graphics file on your PC, not just genuine digital photos, music and video. As others have said this works by setting up a website to which your PC serves, then you can access this using the browser on the Wii. Basically with all the sending data to the web page and then retrieving it again from the Wii (using the same broadband connection) every thing is painfully slow.

All in all , in some ways a nice idea, but it doesn't work well enough to be worth while.

1 out of 5 stars Poor in comparison to other media centres   November 26, 2008
Mr. M. A. Quinn (MANCHESTER)
I wont delve to deep into the techicalities of this media centre, the lay person could get this up and running with few griped but its just not very good. Any one who has used Vista Media Centre or XP Media Centre will be dissapointed. There are many others out there that work just as well for your PC.

If its the only way you have of bridging that gap from PC to TV then it will do the job but its just abit clunky, not very crisp or sharp and eventually just boring.

1 out of 5 stars What is the point of this?   November 26, 2008

Like most other reviewers have pointed out, this product is pretty much a waste of time.
It doesn't do anything that can't be done a lot better on another machine in my house.
Wii should stick to being a games console, because that's what it is very very good at.

2 out of 5 stars A waste of time... 1 star   November 24, 2008
Mr. K. P. Rogers (London, UK)
What does this product do? It allows you to access media files (pictures, music and video) that are stored on your PC from the Wii using a website link that you browse to on the Wii.

The software works fine, in terms of setting up your libraries of files on your PC. But, on the Wii you need the Internet Channel, which costs 500 Wii points, or about 3.50.

Once set up you use this to browse to the website and then you put in your own predetermined access code and you get access to the files.

The idea is a clever one, and it all works well enough. What it fails with is quality. The video reproduction is dreadful because what has to happen is that your PC has to upload the file and then the Wii downloads. The download is fine but the upload is typically very slow (max 50kb/s) and so for decent quality video there are lots of compromises.

No doubt as Internet broadband speeds improve then things will get better. Software will improve, too, allowing for the whole process to be enhanced. In principle, this software is a great idea, and it does what it says. In practice, the end result is not that great.

It's super for music, though, as these are smaller files. But I don't see the point of browsing music via the Wii when you can just browse on your own PC.

What I would much prefer is a product that allows my Wii to connect DIRECTLY to my PC via Wireless. Then it would be worth something.

Also, surely there is a security problem in sending my files over x-oom's website. I would say avoid this product if you have any concerns about the integrity of your security.

Additional info:

The more I think about this and use the software the more I think it is a complete WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

One has to have one's computer on whilst using it and the additional outley of the web browser for the Wii is a bit of a cheek... there is no mention of this on the box.

Also, this will waste your upload usage with your broadband provider.

If I could change the star rating to 1, or none, I now would.

1 out of 5 stars The long way round!!!   November 24, 2008
I don't have a pen name (West London)
So your PC and Wii are in the same room and you'd like to access one from the other? Common sense would say you already have a wireless network so why not commumicate direct from PC to Wii.... Not in this case! As everyone else has pointed out your data goes from pc to website to wii all via an unsecure link, which seems to be unbelievably naive of the software manufacturer. This will cane your internet connection and if you're on a limited download plan could end up costing you money. The software itself is easy to get going and I shared a couple of limited folders as I'd already seen the other reviews warn of the unsecure nature of this business. I started by playing a 192kbps mp3, which just kept cutting out as the data uploaded from pc to web and downloaded back to pc, and this is with an 8MB connection!!! Photos worked ok but I already use a 2GB SD card to view them on the Wii so why do I need this software? I believe the idea of a PC to Wii connection to be a good idea in theory and I was very much looking forward to trying this out but it's a huge let down and has some fundamental flaws. I'd advise people to steer clear.
