Not cheap but worth it perhaps November 12, 2008 Mark Webb (Chorley,UK) I was somewhat offput by the cost at first but Amazon cut the price and I decided to buy one and have not since regretted it. Firstly, don't think of this as a light source, it is not, it's designed for mood lighting in an otherwise darkened room. The best way to use it, at least for me, it is to locate it in a corner in a room with white or plain walls angled upwards. You can then just keep on for a pleasant moody atmospheric lighting changing it as the fancy takes you or just allowing it to cycle through its' auto setting. If you have the money for it you can buy up half a dozen of them and they will work together to create ( I imagine) a stunning effect. Remember that the LED light source is non replaceable and the unit itself, which is about the size of a large melon, is fairly delicate so it needs to be carefully handled. If you are looking for some mood lighting for a special room then this would be a great buy, although a cheap one.
Just Love It October 20, 2008 wicket2005 (England) I had been looking round for a mood lamp and spotted this one on Amazon but it was while I was in a local store I saw a demonstration of it. I fell in love with it on the spot and as the hubbie did as well I couldn't buy one quick enough. It looks like quite an arty modern lamp, I have the clear version and have it pointed into a corner, accentuating a wooden leaf arrangement I have in a vase. The chosen colour sweeps right from the corner and across the wall. It effectively makes a wall appear a different colour, we have cream walls and the effect is fantastic. A splash of colour without the mess of painting or getting bored with the colour. It is very easy to set up as you just scroll a touch wheel round to your chosen colour then you can change the intensity of the colour by touching another button. It is just effective at creating a different feeling to a room and if you hadn't guess I just love it. It may appear to be expensive but it really does work and creates a focal point in a room. I definitely recommend it.
How trashy does the description of this thing sound? September 29, 2008 Tomas I heard about this lamp and dismissed it as a trashy cheap sounding toy, but I was in Dublin recently and saw one in operation in a philips shop. It was actually kind of nice and because you can turn down the intensity of the colours a lot, it really manages to create a lot of different moods. When I got it back home it was even better, in the evenings, in our white painted apartment, it could totally transform the look of the place. Light blues, deep greens, or hellish deep red, whatever the colour or intensity you want with the remote it only takes seconds to get it. The lamp is nice and heavy, although a little top heavy, and the guy in the shop told me there was a stand for it but there was nothing in the box. The design is very Apple, and the remote is gorgeous even on it's own, with the glossy white finish and round spectrum to play with. It's also not infra-red, so you don't need line of sight with it. I thought the price was pretty high, but now I'm starting to convince myself that one or two more wouldn't be such a bad purchase. Very recommended!
Great for plain rooms! September 1, 2008 David Carroll (Newcastle, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this product whilst in university halls of residence, which weren't the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in! The Philips living colours light transformed my room into a colourful and relaxing place. The one problem is that it's so simple it can't really do anything, you can choose your colour, intensity and brightness (which can create some amazing effects) or you can choose to have it run through all the colours with a handy 'demo' mode (found by holding the on switch for a few seconds) but this is set at one brightness (the brightest - not good for going to sleep to!) Overall, a great product! Would definitely buy one again!
great outside June 27, 2008 D. W. Needham (sheffield, england) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I know it's not exactly what it's made for, but when I'm outside of an evening, I always take this out and put it on the table pointing up at the parasol. It somehow makes the ambience so much nicer having a warm glow, or just on the rotating colours if I have music on. So much better than normal boring lighting
