Dyson DC19 Cylinder Vacuum cleaner
This is potentially a great vacuum cleaner but is spoilt because in my opinion the flathead attachment for cleaning floors is next to useless on carpet. Because it's not possible to retract the brush elements when cleaning carpet they ended up collecting hairs and fibre and I then had to spent ages picking them out of the bristles by hand. I found the only way to get over the problem was to buy a turbo head attachment at an additional 40. Previously I owned an older Dyson DC05 and was very happy with it until it broke after 6 years. This older machine had a cleaning head that allowed the bristles to be retracted and it gave excellent cleaning on all surfaces, unfortunately because of different fittings I could not use the old head on the new machine. Sometimes new may not be better.

I bought my DC19 back in June and wanted to hold off reviewing it until I had used it for a while, so 6 months on and I am still enjoying my hoovering sessions with this beauty.
I am a single male in a little cottage with both carpeted and bare floors, as well as a log-burner and spider-centric beamed ceilings and have to say this little machine copes admirably with it all. It makes vacuuming a joy, and far from a chore. With the reassuring strong suck even now after half a year and an as yet unwashed filter, it still cleans effectively.
The thing I love most about this cleaner is the way everything slots together with little effort- precise designing that is just sublime. The easy way the canister slots back in is something I never stop enjoying!
At this price this machine continues to be a no-brainer- get it, to be honest!

Fantastic vacuum if you have mainly non-carpeted floors!
The flat attachment for floors that it comes with does not do a very good job on carpeted areas, however it *will* still pick up material, it may just require a few passes and a bit of extra effort.
The rooms in my flat are all wood flooring and are a breeze to clean, with the attachment getting to areas that other similar vacuums would never reach. I have a carpeted hallway and fuzz/threads/hair are a bit more difficult to pick up off of that, but with a couple passes it usually succeeds. One room also has a large area rug on it which is a bit easier to vacuum than the carpeting.
I've owned a floor model Dyson in the past and this cylinder vacuum definitely lives up to my expectations based on that experience and for a change I actually don't mind vacuuming!

I bought this model having been persuaded by friends that Dyson made excellent vacuum cleaners, but I have not found it that good at all. Here are my issues with it:
1) It's heavy and bulky
2) The hose often gets tangled up and loses suction
3) The drum gets clogged up before filling up and emptying it is messy
4) The attachments are not a good shape for getting into awkward spots
5) There is no storage for the attachments- they are easy to lose!
Overall I regret buying this machine and won't be buying another Dyson ever again!
