 Good but high maintenance November 18, 2008

I have owned my Roomba for about 6 months now. I was initially very impressed at the idea of having my floors cleaned automaticlly. However it is somewhat high maintenance in that the brushes and especially bearings need defluffing very regularly and the dust container is small and needs emptying regularly. The rotary brush is quite fragile and ours needed replacing quite soon after we bought it as something got caught on it. If you have small children who leave things on the floor then it is no good at all as the said small objects will either be "eaten" or get clogged in the system and stop Roomba working. It is really good for cleaning under bedsteads. Probably OK if you are able to keep you floors clutter free!!

I heard about the Roomba from a friend, who raved about it. My wife is about to have surgery on her knee which is going to leave her on crutches for weeks, so I thought I'd give it a go. I don't know why this amazing bit of kit isn't advertised on TV or in any magazines I have seen, because once people catch on it will change the way we do housework. You can, quite literally, get on with your life while this little thing cleans your house for you. Not only that, it does a really good job, and it's about the same price as your lower end of the range Dysons. Get a life and get one!

Despite buying this from Amazon, i wanted to know a bit more about it so contacted the seller direct. Electronics Warehouse. He was increadibly helpful and sorted me out with delivery on a specific day. Not used it yet but will post a new review then....

Absolutely brilliant must have item for anyone to whom hoovering is a chore, we've had ours for 2 months now and wouldn't be without one. Ours is set to do it's stuff while we're all at work and it's doing fine so far, It's only got itself into difficulty once or twice, once when it knocked a very heavy folded airer over onto itself - we thought it was a gonner then, but it's so robust it doesn't seem to have suffered for it (only a very minor scratch). Another time it came to a halt because it ate the laptop cable, but there was no damage to it or the cable. We're all certainly a lot tidier for it for fear of it eating anything! It, thanks to the side brush cleans closer to the skirting than my Dyson, there's no need to go around the edge with the hoover nozzle at all.
It comes with lighthouses but we haven't bothered with them yet we just wedge the doors open and let it do its stuff, it cleans the downstairs of our 4 bed house very well.
Downsides? - Only one, it doesn't do stairs.
Would I buy another? - Yes, infact I can't wait to get one for the upstairs!
